Interests: We love hiking, camping, road-tripping, and exploring the outdoors with our Labrador Retriever, Dug. I love finding good places to eat or trying new recipes in the kitchen (recommendations welcome). I enjoy practicing calligraphy in my spare time and jamming out to Ariana Grande, the Weeknd, or Bruno Mars when I need an energy boost or something to pump me up for the day.
About Me: Rosie Nguyen is an award-winning journalist who joined the ABC4 News team as a reporter in January 2018. In September 2020, she embarked on a new journey as the anchor for the CW30 News at 7 p.m. Although she’s not out in the field anymore, she is continuing her passion for social justice and community issues through the nightly “In Focus” discussions.
Rosie’s no stranger to the KTVX family. She first interned for ABC4 News in 2011 and graduated from the University of Utah’s journalism program under ABC4’s very own Craig Wirth.
After graduating, Rosie spent more than a year and a half in Oregon as the weekend anchor and reporter at KEZI, the #1 news station in Eugene. There, she reported on one of the state’s most devastating wildfire seasons, historic ice storm, and the total solar eclipse.
While at ABC4 News, Rosie has won a few awards with the Utah Society of Professional Journalists including Best Criminal Justice Reporting in 2018, Best Minority Issues Reporting in 2019, and Best General News Reporting in 2020. She is currently nominated for a Rocky Mountain Emmy as a Breaking News Anchor during the violent George Floyd riots in downtown Salt Lake City last May.
Rosie is the daughter of two Vietnam War immigrants. Her father was a soldier for the Southern Vietnamese army and her mother was a boat refugee. She takes pride in speaking Vietnamese fluently and preserving her heritage through cultural community involvement.
Rosie was Miss United Nations USA 2013 and spent her year of service promoting her platform about helmet safety and head trauma awareness after her best friend was killed in a motorcycle accident. After her reign, she continued volunteering for the Vietnamese Community of Utah and the Virtua Foundation, even traveling to Africa to help with building the first children’s hospital in Tanzania.
