Nguyen Thanh Trung – Fulbright University Vietnam
Before joining Fulbright in Spring 2021, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Trung is currently the Director of the Center for International Studies and the Department Head of International Politics at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Vietnam National University in HCMC.. Previously, he was the USSH’s former Dean of the Faculty of International Relations from 2016 to 2018.
He has taught courses in International Political Economy, International Relations Theory, Chinese Foreign Policy, Research Methods in Politics, Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Comparative Politics, World Politics, and International Security.
After earning his MA in International Politics from Fudan University with the United Board (UBCHEA) fellowship grants, Dr. Nguyen pursued further studies at the University of Virginia under the Harvard-Yenching Institute’s Doctoral Fellowship, before completing his Ph.D. in Political Science at the Hong Kong Baptist University with the prestigious Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme Award. He was also trained at Harvard University for a one-month course on Educational Leadership as a UBCHEA fellow.
In December 2018, he was invited to deliver lectures at the Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages in Kaohsiung, Taiwan to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. He also took students to China on a fact-finding trip in January 2019.
Dr. Nguyen Thanh Trung also served as lecturer for an offshore program of Keuka College in Ho Chi Minh City and at the University of Economics and Law since 2018. His research interests focus on international political economy, comparative politics (dealing with East Asian countries), great power politics and security studies in the Asia-Pacific. He can speak English and Chinese fluently.
Starting this Spring 2021 semester, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Trung will take up his new role as an Adjunct Faculty Member in Vietnamese Studies at Fulbright.
