Hatty Jones

Hatty Jones (born 21 July 1988) is a British actress who played the role of the title character in the 1998 film Madeline.

Brief biography

Jones was born on 21 July 1988, in London, England. Hatty made her feature film debut at the age of nine playing the title role, which was based on the children’s book series by Ludwig Bemelmans. She was picked among thousands of applicants in a casting search, which was looking for the girl with “the right height and charm for the role”.

Hatty later trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts graduating in July 2010. At drama school she was cast in a number of roles including Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and Nina in The Seagull. She recently appeared in There Will Be More by Edward Bond at The Cock Tavern Theatre in Kilburn North London, and in Hotel Confessions at The Southwark Playhouse.

Hatty has also played supporting roles in a number of television productions, namely Holby City as Libby Langsdale, and Doctors as Edie Watkins.

Jones co-founded HeavyWait Productions together with her friend and fellow filmmaker Amani Zardoe in 2013 as a “creative platform”. In 2014 Jones released a webseries on YouTube entitled Offstage. Filmed in and around Hatty’s home at Muswell Hill, the videos chronicle the lives of young adult actors, played by Hatty and Zardoe, as they struggle at making a name for themselves in the acting industry.

In 2018 Hatty went on to produce and star in a semi-autobiographical play entitled That Girl, based on her experiences as a child actress. The straw hat worn by Hatty in the play is a thinly-veiled reference to her time in the Madeline film.[1]
