Ex-Inter Coach Marcello Lippi: “I Disagree With Criticism Of Inter Coach Inzaghi, Scudetto Not Over Yet”
Former Inter and Italy coach Marcello Lippi has said that he does not understand people’s criticism of current Inter boss Simone Inzaghi, according to a report in the Italian media.
Speaking during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Marcello Lippi came out in defence of Simone Inzaghi in relation to Inter’s possible failed Serie A title defence.
“I don’t agree with the criticism of Inzaghi: he’s an excellent manager of technical resources. He’s made one mistake, but Bologna have made it difficult for all the big teams.
“And then he has four strikers that no one else has. This is an exciting league, the likes of which hasn’t been seen in years. And it’s not over yet: anything can happen on any given day.”
Despite clearly having support for the Inter boss, Marcello Lippi does feel that AC Milan are now the team most likely to win the title. He felt Inter were the favourites until the loss away at Bologna.
“In the last two months I was sure that Inter would make it. I thought they were the favourites, the most determined, but Bologna changed everything. They both deserve it, but now I say Milan.”
Part of the reason why the World Cup winning coach thinks that the Rossoneri will win their first title for a decade is the quality of Stefan Pioli, their coach.
“Let’s talk about Pioli: I like him because he works hard, he has excellent organisation, he’s a team player, he transmits serenity.”
AC Milan are three points ahead of Inter heading into the final three games of the season and they also have the better head to head record of the teams end on the same points.
