Biography
Early life
She was born Cynthia Burbridge on December 30, 1978 in Bangkok, Thailand. She was raised in Pattaya.[1] Her father, an American named William Burbridge, moved to Thailand in the 1970s and owns a diving business called Seafari. Bishop’s mother, Patricia, is half-English, one-quarter Indian and one-quarter Thai.[2][3]
Career
An experienced diver at thirteen, Bishop filmed her first commercial underwater. She began modelling regularly while attending Ruamrudee International School in Bangkok. At seventeen, she won Miss Thailand World and represented her country at Miss World. Her reign was controversial among some who assumed she was not Thai due to her appearance and name. Ultimately, it helped make her a household name in Thailand and allowed her to launch her acting career. She also became a VJ for Channel V.[2] In 2005, Bishop appeared in The King Maker which earned her a nomination for best supporting actress at the Suphannahong National Film Awards. She has also appeared in numerous dramas, including Thai adaptations of Gossip Girl (2015) and The O.C. (2016).[1]
In 2016, Bishop became a judge and the host of Asia’s Next Top Model, starting with its fourth season.[4] She has appeared in other competition series, such as The Face Thailand, Miss Tiffany’s Universe: The Reality, and Drag Race Thailand. In 2018, she launched an initiative, #DontTellMeHowToDress, after Thai authorities told women to dress modestly to prevent sexual harassment. Bishop partnered with Women and Men Progressive Movement Foundation and UN Women to strengthen the campaign.[3] The same year, she appeared in the drama The Crown Princess.[5] In late 2020, Bishop appeared in the television drama, Neth Mahunnop.[6] Her following role was in The Mind Game as Nanpinit in June 2021.[7] The following October, Bishop began hosting the revival of Supermodel Me.[8]
Starting in late 2021, Bishop had a major supporting role in F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers playing Roselyn Paramaanantra.[9][10] In early 2022, she appeared in Club Friday the Series: It Happens on Valentine’s Day (2022).[11] She has also been cast in GMMTV’s Home School.[12]
Personal life
In July 2005, she married model and actor Byron Bishop, who is half-Japanese and half-American. The couple dated for seven years before marrying. Together they have two children, Leila Carmen and Aiden.[2][1]
