BTS Remakes Idol Music Video In Garena Free Fire

The collaboration between BTS and Garena Free Fire, Gen FF, has recently been reaching new heights, culminating in a remake of the music video Idol using only game assets. The music video features all the character skins and costumes designed by the group. Gen FF began a couple of weeks ago on March 23 and is currently scheduled to conclude with a grand finale at some point in April.

Idol was first released back in 2018 to widespread praise, marking a high point for the popularity of BTS outside their main market in Korea. The song debuted at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 list and ranked first in sales for the week, totaling over 43,000 downloads and 24 million streams in the United States.

Gen FF began with a short TV series, The Free Fire x BTS Show, starring all of the various band members. Available for viewing only in game, the TV series has been described by the group as a “collaboration variety show.” This involves the members of BTS taking part in activities themed around Garena Free Fire.

The partnership between BTS and Garena Free Fire includes custom skins designed by each one of the band members, exclusive emotes, music, and much more. Several game modes have been added to Garena Free Fire since the collaboration started such as Pop Sway in which players “can achieve event milestones with top Free Fire tracks played in the background.”

In addition to Pop Sway, Gen FF introduced the Rush Hour Akimbo mode which allows players to dual wield weapons after having found an item known as the Akimbo Activator. When they complete certain milestones in the mode, players can also claim a special skin for their penguin pet, Mr. Waggor.

Garena Free Fire is described by its developer, 111dots Studio, as “the ultimate survival shooter game available on mobile.” Garena Free Fire became the most downloaded mobile game in 2019. The title went on to set a new record for player counts in 2021, recording a total of 150 million active daily users.
