Le Minh Khue

Le Minh Khue (born 6 December 1949) was a Vietnamese writer.

Biography

Le Minh Khue was born in Nong Cong, Thanh Hoa Province, North Vietnam in 1949. She was orphaned as a young girl, as her parents had been killed during the brutal Viet Minh land reforms. Khue lied about her age joined the Young Volunteers in 1965 to fight against the United States during the Vietnam War, as her village had been destroyed during Operation Rolling Thunder. She joined the Youth Shock Brigades against the Americans for National Salvation and was sent to work on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Khue, who was always a fan of American literature, took inspiration from Ernest Hemingway’s own coping with war from his book For Whom the Bel Tolls and became a writer during and after the war.
