Pre-Debut:
Junhoe made his first television appearance at the age of thirteen, on the SBS reality programme Star King. In 2011, he appeared on the first season of SBS’s K-pop Star where he made it to the fourth round of auditions. He joined YG the same day as Yunhyeong in April 2012. His original focus was dance, as he idolized Michael Jackson. Later he found he enjoyed singing more and focused his effort on that.
Survival Shows:
In WIN, Junhoe’s serious default facial expression, most new fans loved him for his sass. His vocals were raw and unrefined but showed amazing natural talent. His dancing helped him stand out too, since he had been doing that for longer. He was fairly stoic during WIN, only showing tears during the final episode when the uncertainty was overwhelming.
During Mix and Match, Junhoe’s pride took a massive hit when he wasn’t chosen to be a secured member of iKON immediately with B.I., Bobby and Jinhwan. He grew a lot during the show, helping Chanwoo learn his lines, comforting Jinhwan when their team did poorly, and showing just how important the team was to him when Yunhyeong failed one of the tests. His vocals were smoothed out during the show as well, and he showed more control over his tone and notes.
With iKON:
After leaving the survival shows behind him, and Junhoe secured his role in iKON his real personality showed. He’s a goofy and sincerely odd person with a tendency to act and speak without thinking. The sassiness that he showed when he was overcompensating due to insecurity has mellowed out as well. He’s more of a kid that needs attention and supervision rather than a cold and aloof teenager. He’s still known for being the loudest and noisiest member however, and it doesn’t seem like that will ever change.
As a vocalist, Junhoe is raw power. His voice is the easiest to pick out, even for new fans and listeners. His ad libs can sometime overpower all the over vocals in a live performance. He is the only one in iKON who can match Bobby’s rapping intensity with the same level in vocals. His dancing style is a little flashy, he hits moves with a unique flare and coolness.
