Kim Hirsch, Bomi

Bomi is a Research and Evidence Scientist on the Evidence & Policy Analysis team. This team’s work includes What Works for Health (WWFH), a searchable online database that provides community leaders, coalitions, and others with promising strategies to respond effectively to their health priorities. In WWFH, analysts systematically assess, summarize, and rate evidence for policies and programs that can affect health behaviors, social & economic factors, the physical environment, and clinical care.  This research and translation effort was initially developed with funding from the Wisconsin Partnership Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and expanded to support the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps program in 2012.

Prior to joining County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, Bomi worked on survey and data analysis as a project assistant at the Institute for Research on Poverty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also worked as an assistant researcher on the Korea national child well-being project, Dream Start, conducting first-year program evaluation and program coordination.

She holds a PhD in social welfare from the University of Wisconsin School of Social Work. Her dissertation examines the effects of maternal social support on child abuse and neglect in the neighborhood disadvantage context. She received her B.A. and M.A. in social welfare from Seoul National University in South Korea. Her interests focus on family and child well-being, social support and resources for low-income families, and health disparities.
