Amy Waltz: People: Center for Bioethics: Indiana University
Ms. Waltz is an Affiliate Faculty member at the IU Center for Bioethics and the Associate Director for the Indiana University Research Integrity Office, responsible for receiving and facilitating investigation into allegations of falsification, fabrication, and plagiarism. In this role, Ms. Waltz coordinates, facilitates, and oversees research misconduct inquiries and investigations across all eight IU campuses, and ensures compliance with federal laws and Indiana University policy. In addition, Ms. Waltz often spearheads University-wide initiatives for the Office of Research Compliance including, most recently, a year-long working group that provided guidance on the return of research results to the University and human research protection program.
Prior to her work in research integrity, Ms. Waltz spent more than ten years in human research protection and compliance at Indiana University. Most recently, Ms. Waltz served as the Associate Director for Regulatory Affairs, Reliance, and Outreach for the Indiana University Human Subjects Office, the administrative office that supports the Indiana University Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) which are responsible for the review and approval of all research involving human subjects conducted at IU and its affiliated institutions. Ms. Waltz supported the human research protection program through coordination and implementation of major initiatives, including regulatory changes, policy and procedure updates, best practices, and others; coordination and completion of reliance agreements; and education to management, staff members, research personnel, and faculty members across all eight IU campuses. Ms. Waltz joined IU as a part-time staff member in 2007 and joined the Human Subjects Office full time after her graduation from the IU McKinney School of Law in 2008, where she now serves as adjunct faculty. She received her undergraduate degree in journalism and business from Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana, and earned her Certified IRB Professional (CIP) certification in 2009.
