Born in 1981, JOUNG Yu-mi, studied fine arts at Kookmin University and later animation directing at the Korean Academy of Film Arts. She made her first animated short, , in 2006. Next was 2009’s , which picked up the Danish animation award and Special Mention of the International Jury at the International Odense Film Festival as well as an invitation to the Cannes Film Festival. A year later, her third short debuted at the Berlin International Film Festival. She returned to the Berlinale with in 2013, which also picked up awards at the Ozu Film Festival (Maneki Neko Award) and the Animafest-World Festival of Animated Film-Zagreb (Grand Prix).
