Gennaro Gattuso appointed Valencia head coach on two-year deal – The Athletic
Valencia have confirmed Gennaro Gattuso will be their new head coach.
The La Liga side have been on the hunt for a new coach after parting ways with Jose Bordalas and former AC Milan and Italy midfielder Gattuso is the man they’ve settled on.
Gattuso, 44, has agreed a two-year deal until June 2024 and while speaking to reporters at the airport expressed his delight at the move.
He said: “I am very happy, it’s the first time I have been to Valencia and I am happy, very proud. I have signed a contract with a historic club, with a lot of honour.”
Supporters of Valencia have raised their concerns about the move due to Gattuso’s past comments which have been interpreted as sexist and homophobic.
The former Napoli and Milan head coach had gone on record to say “marriage is between a man and a woman” in 2008.
