Career
2016: Produce 101, K-pop Star 6
Lee Soomin originally appeared on the survival show Produce 101 as a trainee representing Fantagio Music. However, in April 2016, she left the agency after terminating her contract.[1] She was eliminated in episode 10 after ranking in 31st place. [2]
Later that year, she became a contestant on the competition show K-pop Star 6: The Last Chance. During her time on the show, she was part of the Minari unit. The unit made it to the semi-finals, being eliminated in episode 20.[citation needed]
2017–2018: MIXNINE, FAVE GIRLS
Following the conclusion of K-pop Star 6, Lee Soomin became a trainee at LOEN Entertainment, later joining its subsidiary FAVE Entertainment.
In June 2017, it was announced that she, alongside fellow Produce 101 contestant Park Soyeon, were set to debut in LOEN Entertainment’s new girl group, LOEN Girls (later known as FAVE GIRLS then PlayM GIRLS and now set to debut as Weeekly).[3]
In October 2017, Lee Soomin became a contestant on the survival show MIXNINE. She made it until the final episode, but was eliminated when the boys’ team won against the girls’ team, and hence ultimately did not get to debut.[4]
On September 1, 2018, it was reported that she, alongside fellow FAVE Entertainment trainees Park Soyeon and Kim Bowon, had left the agency and FAVE GIRLS after terminating their contracts.[5]
2019–2020: MYSTIC Rookies
On February 19, 2020, she was revealed as a member of the trainee group MYSTIC Rookies.[6]
On August 7, 2020, she took down MYSTIC Story’s link out of her Instagram bio; hours later, all her pictures was removed from the MYSTIC Rookies’s official Instagram, therefore confirming her departure.
2021-2022: Leaving the industry
On July 1st, 2022 Soomin posted on Instagram after over two years saying that she gave up on being an idol and decided to get into university and get a degree instead, she claims that she “was living the same thing over and over again” by leaving one company and joining another one. She also says she feels peaceful and alright right now.
