Who is Natalia Kills?

Natalia Kills is one of Teddy Sinclair’s many aliases.

The 36-year-old singer has recorded music under a few different names, including Verbalicious, but Natalia is her most popular.

As Natalia, she released two studio albums Perfectionist in 2011 and Trouble in 2013. However, since 2015, she has performed under the name Teddy.

The musician’s legal name is Natalia Noemi Sinclair, taking her husband Willy’s surname when she married him in 2014. He is also a singer.

She is best known for her songs Mirrors, Free with Will.i.am and Champagne Showers with LMFAO, but has also written songs for a number of other big artists.

This includes Madonna and Rihanna, and she received a Grammy nomination for co-writing Rihanna’s hit single Kiss It Better.

She was fired from X Factor

In 2015, Natalia and her husband Willy, who was also a judge, were both fired from The X Factor New Zealand for ‘bullying’ a contestant.

As reported by NME, they were removed from the show by Mediworks on March 14 after they harshly criticised a contestant.

Joe Irvine was a contestant on the show and the singer slammed the 25-year-old live on air for stealing her husband’s look “from the hair to the suit”.

She called him “disgusting” and “creepy” and said “Do you not have any value or respect for originality?” The Guardian reports.

Natalia’s husband Willy joined in, calling Joe “Norman Bates dressing up in his mother’s clothing,” and Mediaworks released a statement announcing their sacking following backlash.

“While the judges on X Factor are expected to provide critiques of the performances, we will not tolerate such destructive tirades from any of the judges,” CEO Mark Weldon said.

“Contestants put their all into this competition and they should expect to receive feedback and criticism that is professional and constructive.”

“We no longer have confidence that Kills and Moon are the right people to perform the role of X Factor judges and they will leave the show, effective immediately.”

TV3 also released a Facebook statement, saying: “TV3 does not condone bullying and are currently on-site with Joe who is doing well.”

Natalia and Willy apologised on Twitter

Following the drama, Natalia took to Twitter to apologise to the contestant, writing: “A lot goes on behind the scenes of a reality TV show and you see isn’t always the whole story.

“The show brought me on to bring my passion, dramatic expression and perspective. I was encouraged to be outspoken and things got out of hand,” she continued.

Then, she reached out to Joe, saying: “Joe. I hope you can forgive me and I wish you all the best! Be natural, unconventional and be you!”

Willy posted a similar apology, tweeting: “The show encourages judges to be forthright and highly opinionated. It went too far and I never intended to single out anyone.”
