Minh Hue Nguyen
Minh Hue Nguyen is a senior lecturer in EAL/TESOL Teacher Education in the School of Curriculum, Teaching and Inclusive Education, Faculty of Education at Monash University, Australia. Her research, supervision, teaching and engagement are in the areas of teachers’ professional learning, curriculum, and pedagogy in TESOL and EAL. Minh Hue is interested in creating productive learning experiences for preservice teachers to transition effectively into the teaching profession and for in-service teachers to develop professionally. She is passionate about finding ways for institutions to support teachers and teacher educators in this learning.
Minh Hue obtained her PhD in Education (TESOL focused) from Monash University, Australia. Prior to this appointment, she served on national and institutional committees to design and evaluate TESOL curricula. She had taught English language, linguistics, academic skills, research methodology and TESOL pedagogy at Vietnam National University, Deakin University, and the University of Melbourne.
Minh Hue’s publications have focused on EAL teachers’ professional learning in teaching contexts, including emotional experiences, identity development, mentoring, agency, and collaboration in teaching and learning. Her recent research monograph, titled English Language Teacher Education, explores the sociocultural contexts of teachers’ professional experiences, the preservice teachers as learners of English language teaching, and the activity of learning to teach English language in relation to the inter-related contextual and personal issues. Her most recent research builds on and extends her previous work by examining professional learning for teacher educators in TESOL and how EAL and content areas teachers interpret and use the Victorian EAL Curriculum in designing differentiated learning for EAL students in content classrooms.
Her research has been recognized through, for example, the Penny McKay Award Special Commendation for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis in Language Education, Monash Education Research Community’s Publication Award, Monash University’s Postgraduate Publication Award, the ATEA/Kay Martinez Award for Best Paper at the ATEA Conference, the Monash Dean of Education’s ECR Project Award, Monash’s Advancing Women’s Research Success Grant, and the ATEA Earlier Career Researcher Grant.
